Hurricane, Shmurricane!

Okay, so maybe I'm naive. Maybe it's inexperience. Or maybe it's just plain stupidity! However, I cannot seem to understand what in the world all the fuss is over Hurricane Hanna. First of all, last I checked it still wasn't a Hurricane... still just a tropical storm. Second of all, although the rain has started, it still is just RAIN... nothing major! So why on earth did the schools close at 12 noon today! Now, Ike I can see them getting a little concerned about. Isn't that like a Category 4 already? Ike is still about a week or so away, though. Tyler has been complaining since Tuesday of the base going into "freak out mode", too. Although he did mention something last night about taxpayer dollars and multi-million dollar aircraft and equipment, yadda yadda yadda... so I guess maybe the Air Force has a somewhat valid reason to err on the side of caution. But come on people... is a little rain really worth shutting schools down THREE hours early?!?!? Now, please don't get me wrong about the destruction and devastation hurricanes have caused. My heart and prayers go out to those who are truly impacted, and suffering because of hurricanes. I am just talking about what has been happening locally, or in "my neck of the woods". At any rate, if Hurricane Hanna hasn't blown my house into the wonderful land of OZ, I'll be sure to report back, and let y'all know just how "bad" this storm was.

You are so funny! I remember always thinking that too....the year Austin started Kindergarten didn't they shut down 1/2 of the first week? Oh, well...can you imagine if they shut down schools here every time it rained?!!
